There is a lot of questions when it comes to a newborn session. I will answer my most frequent questions right HERE! First, where do I shoot at? I know it may sound a little uncomfortable or sound like pressure, But I go to my clients homes to shoot. I know it sounds like you may need to clean and have your home picture perfect. But trust me, that is not the case. I ask my clients which room or rooms would be the most ideal to shoot the family portion of the shoot in, and have the room or rooms picture ready. Examples for those would be, the nursery, the master bedroom or guest room, or the living room. If none of those are ideal, we can shoot against a blank wall or I can bring a solid backdrop. The next question, When is the best window to shoot newborn session? That would be under 3 weeks of age. If baby is NICU or premie then those weeks are stretched of course. Another big question, What happens if baby doesn't sleep? Well first, newborn session can take up to 2 hours. I always say we are baby's schedule, not ours! I have had some great sleepers over the years. I have had some that cry majority as well. We will take our time. My method is, if baby is not crying and not sleeping, we can still shoot while awake. I will usually resort to the good ole swaddle method. Of course, we can try to get baby to sleep. But sometimes, they just don't. AND THATS OK. I mostly swaddle anyway for the cute basket shots. Another question I get, Are siblings or pets allowed? ABSOLUTELY. If sibling is a toddler though, just know we can't stress them out during the session either with posing. Toddler siblings need to take their time during sessions as well and that's ok. Last question, Prop and outfits? I bring my travel studio to your home, this includes, wraps, outfits, headbands and baskets. I always suggest clients searching around themselves too if they want some specific. However, I bring a good load too.
Milestone shoots, I get asked a lot when it best. The most popular milestones sessions are, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month and 1 year. If you need to pick only 1 or 2, I 100% recommend the sitter stage and 1 year birthday photos. The sitter stage is usually 7 months. When they are sitting unassisted and can not crawl away yet. Then of course the first birthday photos are BIG HIT! We can smash a cake, we can bring in cute props. We can do these outdoors in the early morning or at sunset. Another option is me bringing my travel studio with backdrop to your home and setting up indoors.
A more newer service I am starting to offer is fresh 48 sessions. This is where I come to the hospital and shoot with you and your new baby in those first days of life. This can be done at anytime during your stay at the hospital. But this is not birth photography. Birth photography is not something I offer as of yet due to having 3 young children myself. My schedule is flexible but not that flexible yet. Inquire for price.
